PHILADELPHIA, PA May 11, 2017 – The Schuylkill Navy is proud to welcome back ACME Markets as the official supermarket, hydration and environmental partner of the 2017 Stotesbury Cup Regatta presented by Toyota, with an expanded ACME Stotesbury Shop on-site at the Regatta.
In 2016, ACME supported the new Schuylkill Navys sustainability partnership with the Philadelphia Water Department in an effort to reduce the number of disposable plastic water bottles littering the Schuylkill and its banks. The Philadelphia Water Department completed the installation of four water stations from Boathouse Row to East Falls.
The Stotesbury Cup Regatta promoted this effort to the thousands of attendees, strongly urging them to leave single-use plastic bottles at home.
As a solution, ACME Markets created a remote ACME Pop-Up Hydration Store in the Stotesbury Village at the event. School hospitality chairs, parents and spectators purchased hundreds of units of gallon bottles of ACME water, along with ice and recyclable cups. All products were also available for purchase in advance of the Regatta. Final check-out took place at the ACME Shop in the Stotesbury Village where delivery drivers on golf carts transported items to each school tent.
The Stotesbury Cup Regatta has continued to grow tremendously over the last five years with 200 participating high schools, almost 6,000 athletes and over 35,000 spectators during our two-day celebration. As a result, hospitality needs for each school increase year-over-year. ACME Markets has been the perfect partner to help our participating schools and parent committees with these needs, said Paul Horvat, Commodore of the Schuylkill Navy.
ACME and the 2017 Regatta
After a very successful test-run in 2016, the Schuylkill Navy and ACME Markets hosted a Parent Hospitality Focus Group where several Stotesbury School Hospitality Chairs provided feedback on how to grow and further support the logistical efforts of school hospitality.
ACMEs presence was an unbelievable help last year. Just providing water and ice on-site provided such assistance to St. Joes Prep and many other schools, said Marie Leonard, Schuylkill Navy Parent Concierge and Parent Hospitality Co-Chair at St. Joes Prep. I was excited to participate in the ACME Parent Focus Group and the unanimous sentiment was that this effort is the way of the future. We look forward to the growth of ACMEs logistical support, says Leonard.
For the 2017 Stotesbury Cup Regatta, parent hospitality leaders will be able to order critical items for the Regatta in advance. These items include 2.5 gallon and one-gallon bottles of water, as well as ice and cups. The items will be available for pick-up at the Stotesbury ACME Shop in the Stotesbury Village and will be delivered to the school tent location.
ACME is very excited about our partnership with the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. We are rooted in tradition in the Delaware Valley, feeding families for over 125 years. Partnering with the Schuylkill Navy, which has served as the leader of the rowing community and as a faithful steward of the Schuylkill River since 1858, aligns with ACMEs rich history in this region, said Dan Croce, President of ACME Markets.
The Stotesbury Cup Regatta has been the quintessential family event rowing since 1927. ACME is all about families and we look forward to assisting the thousands of participating families with their hospitality needs, said Croce.
